As a Chemist, I have to give the makers of this shirt (I still bought it ;-) ) a hard time. Element 119 would fall into the Group 1A elements (Hydrogen, Lithium, Sodium, Potassium) and well that just doesn't speak to me. Adamantium shouldn't be an Alkali metal. How about we put it in as a rare earth metal like the one below Uranium (142?). Of course it is all moot, anything beyond 94 is synthetically made and typically don't last all that long so unless elements find some stability adamantium shouldn't exist!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #9
Brian K. Vaughan's satisfying conclusion to his 4 run mini-series within the series. I found him to be a welcomed relief as Whedon's plot and writing was just confusing. What I find interesting is all the baddie's that keep coming out (and unfortunately it hits me that I am not a real Buffy fan!) Two seasons of watching it religiously just doesn't help me when trying to figure out all the bad guys. Hopefully it becomes clearer as things move along.

Well with Cable back (not really for sure why his time streamed father is all bent out of shape about it...I mean kids talk about their parents this way but not usually the other way around?) And then do you really want to send Wolverine and his clones out to get him? Yup X-force is back (what an awful name, I like mine better) with Wolverine leading the charge. Couple of things in this book lead me to believe that the new baby (which is a girl by the way) is none other than some reincarnate of Jean Grey. I could be totally off guard but one 1) Wolverine gives us a "Slim" reference and 2) Cyke is looking at a locket with him and Jean (foreshadowing anyone?) Anyway we shall see...

Chapter 7 is the first issue in this cross-over that really is just a filler issue. Nothing of real excitement occurred in this issue. It was a bridge issue. Obviously a bunch is coming to a head but not in this issue. I am curious what Prof X and Cyke continue to have some sort of underlying disagreement...I still wonder if Prof X isn't trying to undermine (when is Magneto showing up by the way ;-)!The New Avengers #37
Yu cannot draw action sequences...and since this was supposed to be some sort of action packed issue it comes across as weak. This isn't a very good issue...I am tired of this c-lister baddie what about the whole skrull thing...snore zzzzzz give me a new artist and a better plot.10.15.2007

New Avengers #35
Unusual issue. Issue #34 ended with out heroes jumping into a fight, so with this issue I expected some conclusion to that cliffhanger and what does Bendis throw at us? Yup an issue with none of our heroes and a bunch of bad guys banding together to take up against our heroes. Of course this is always something I can never figure out in the comic world...why bad guys don't do this more often but hey it is....the comic world. Anyway Bendis is throwing a whole lot of dangling plots into the mix. Difficult to see where it is all going...not for sure why he his dragging the whole "a skrull or not a skrull" plotline along.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #7 
Another good issue by Brian K. Again I watched Buffy on and off for a couple of years but never a real follower. A good issue on Faith. Little more background on the scooby gang but mostly just Faith. Interesting to see how this plays out. I am sure it won't conclude with Brian's run but probably follow through the books. To me with Faith siding up with a potential enemy this could play out to an endgame of some sort. Was reading a comment in the back of the book and it was interesting to note that in fact we really don't know much about this post Sunnyvale (dale) world? Hmmmm
Uncanny X-men #491
Ughhh what to do about this book? Brubaker writes Captain America...awesome book. Uncanny, fantastic history and great characters, and I can't get into it. I really thought something was going good but nothing. Then I read about this Messiah Complex coming...it it another tease? I really think the X-universe just needs to start over. Everything is just too convoluted...I really thought the 198 mutants left would be something but no (dangling plotline...). I am really trying here...

Batman 668
Wow a real detective story? Morrison continues his strong stories. This one again centers on all the "cheap" imitations of the real "Batman". A welcome reprieve from the Gotham villains, which Morrison really hasn't exploited. Missed the art normal art team. Not a big fan of J.H. Williams' art. Interesting page layouts but poor follow through as the advertising really interrupted the flow. Interesting to see what happens.

Once again Whedon shows that he is the best X-writer in the last 15 years. Amazing storyline, captures the imagination, strong characters, and unbelievable cliffhangers. Whedon has a thing for really beating down my favorite character. This one really leaves Cyke floating into oblivion. First he loses his optic blast, now he is floating into space, but at least he is still the leader, always the leader. Some great lines in this one, Beast's line about, "You know, I thought I'd have a lot more fun if I ever got to say this...that's no moon." and Wolverine's "Good Luck, Summers". That last one is the essence between Wolverine and Cyke. The dueling egos, the constant professionals, the love of the same woman, the constant sparing between two great heroes but in the end the endless respect that both have for each other. Good stuff...good book...not happy about only 2 issues left :-(
Captain America 29
Big week two incredible storylines. Brubaker is doing a tremendous job telling a complex tale and keeping it interesting. I really need to get his first 24 issues! Anyway Winter Soldier plays his card but gets trumped (for now), Stark is realizing that SHIELD is a giant mess and a sinking ship, and hey we even get Natasha doing her best imitation of Spidey. Kind of a linking issue...no real eye openers...but another piece of the puzzle to ponder over.
Ultimate Spider-Man 112
New artist! A welcome site...I was getting tired of Bagley's art...not that it wasn't a heck of a run but it was getting dated. Immonen adds some life to the characters. A new perspective, a new starting point. The story seems a bit fresher...some of the previous series were getting a bit drawn out. Anyway not much to report, a lead off story laying the foundation of the spidey and the goblin.
X-men 202
Reading all the x-books for the endangered species back story makes me realize there are too many mutants running around. When you read Astonishing X-men you get the point...there are 6 tight characters with a good team dynamic. Some of these other books just have too many mutants running around. No dynamic just we have these important characters that should be in a book but their not so let's throw them in. This issue has the new x-men in it which just makes it all the more busy. Aren't they busy with Magik? Ughhhh. At least we have Mr Sinister...he is always a good baddie.

Well the quest for Magik is completed...yet no Magik at least not one that isn't still in Limbo. Of course what the x-teams don't need is another character but it was a nice diversion to see an old school mutant. This issue we got a surprise panel of spidey and Dr Strange. How about that? And a nice appearance of the astonishing group even though they are light years away in space...can't we sort of have some continuity. How about some book cancellations and get the core X groups together. Really two x-teams and a new mutant type book is all you need. Readers do appreciate some continuity (even though we now that Wolverine has a personal time dilation device which allows him to be in all the books simultaneously! Ha). Anyway the quest for Magik story was a bit disappointed. For 4-5 books all we did was establish that Magik is around and now she is in charge of limbo. No real character developments...pretty weak.

This Week In Comics
I had given up on Morrison's batman but with the last issue I decided it was still worth my while. This was kind of a filler issue leading up to "666". Is it any wonder that Batman's son is named Damien? Any Kubert's art continues to rock...great batman artist.
To be honest I have no clue what is going on with the X-men., I bought this issue with the big event 200 coming next month. No clue who is on the team other than Rogue, Cable, Cannonball (and his sister?) and some other girl. Hopefully they can pull these teams together and make it coharent for the rest of us....
Part 4 of the Ultimate Knights storyline and ho hum...nothing terribly exciting. I'll mention it again...the kingpin is not a spidey villian. Let's move on...and let Bagley move on as well. This book needs some new blood...and some new stories.
Is Bendis writing too many books? This book is going nowhere...who cares about a new Ultron...let's make it happen. We are already in Book 3 and nothing exciting has happen except for a naked ultron. Whoopee...I'm done with this one.
Well after the death of the Captain, I had to discover the scoop...the dream of every writer...kill of a character to get new readership! Well I fell for the trap...always liked the Captain but never seemed to get into it. The gritty style is a good start. It will be interesting to see where it goes.
This story comes and goes. This issue is not too exciting.

This Week in Comics
Yawn, ask me if I care? Is this the pax-Whedon? Did he bring us this far along only to go out with a whimper? This issue isn't terribly compelling as the last few really haven't been all that exciting. Guess this underlying storyline that has been running through all the issues really isn't all that memorable. I mean "Beak World" and the return of Colossus, and then Colossus is the one to destroy the world? Is this like Jean Grey lite? Well shouldn't complain...once Whedon goes...no more X-men for me...unless they find a decent writer again!
Is this a comic? Or did DC become a short story publisher? Is this suppose to be some leading edge new world thing? Alright, Grant Morrison, is a fantastic writer but this is a comic...let him write a short story elsewhere. I couldn't bring myself to get through this. My excitement for Grant's Bats is slowing dwindling....good bye9.21.2006
This Week in Comics
Astonishing X-men 17 by Whedon and Cassaday came out this week and what can I say....WOW! It has been a while since a writer and artist have captured my attention. When Astonishing comes out I usually rush to the store to see what is in store for our merry mutants. This latest storyline with the return of the Hellfire Club has been spectucular. Although it's lineage can be traced back to the Phoenix Saga, Whedon pays homage to one of the best serials ever. Each issue has been a cliffhanger with me wanting more. Last issue it was the re-appearance (?) of the original White Queen...this issue...well not to spoil it but my comic hero comes through in a big way. Thank god, the return of the real Scott Summers! Thanks Whedon for making the X-men fun to read! Can't wait for 18!
Overall I think Brian K. Vaughan is the best writer going right now. All of his books are niche books that are tremendously written. The Runaways is the little book that could. Canceled a thousand times, it still plugs along. Just read that Brian is leaving the book with Issue 25 and guess who is taking it over? None other than Mr Whedon! Sweet! As mentioned this book is well written and the character interactions are what make this book special. They really don't fight any A list baddies but they do fight well among themselves. Great characterizations.
I admit I was a late starter on this series. As mentioned in my previous rant, I thought the whole Civil War thing was a gimmick trying to keep up with DC. Pitting Marvel heros against one another is an interesting scheme. Having Spider-man reveal his secret identity...big time! I figured if they were going all the way like this I'd better get in the know. Started last month with #3, decent read and have to admit I am with Captain America on this one. Book #4, well I'm really starting to doubt this whole Civil War thing. It seems too forced and not honest with the Marvel Universe...I feel (again) like their trying to DCify. This book had all kinds of wacky stuff...I cloned Thor!?, a dead mutant (is that 197 now?)!?, and finally an evil Avengers with Bullseye and Venom!? Come on how insane can this get (or how stupid). Oh well I used to like the Marvel world...
